Council meeting is set for September 27, 2007
Present: Mike McKenzie, Sally Adams, Tim Mitsumori,
Janet Lee, Ann Cowan, Kathy Doyle, Bill Bradford, Susannah Kilbourne, Jeannie
Graham, Scott Davis
Absent: Mike Henderson, Marsha Bordas, Larry Sykes
Introductions
- Cindy Gatsos, a student from UK introduced herself.
Agenda
- Janet Lee made a motion and Kathy Doyle seconded
that: We approve the agenda as amended to include the textbook request,
ESS proposal, and visiting artist request. The motion passed.
Minutes
- Bill Bradford made a motion and Sally Adams seconded
that: We approve the minutes from the August 23, 2007 SBDM Council
meeting as written. The motion passed.
Community Input
- Jeannie Graham asked if it would be possible to
install hand sanitizers in the cafeteria. She is concerned that about
student’s health because they do not have time or facilities to wash their
hands before lunch. Mr. McKenzie will look into solutions for this issue.
Principal Selection Policy
- Discussion on the principal selection policy was
postponed until the next Council meeting.
By Law Review
- Kathy Doyle asked about the status of a minority
parent being elected to the Council. Mr. McKenzie said that no one has come
forward at present but PTSA will put a request in the newsletter again.
- Kathy Doyle also asked about a student and classified
representative for the Council. Mr. McKenzie explained that there has been
no interest from the classified employees since they are not allowed to vote
or participate in consultation discussions. The request for a student
representative will be included in the class officer nominations done this
month.
Textbook Request
- Janet Lee made a motion and Susannah Kilbourne
seconded that: We approve the textbook request of $196.35 for
Musicianship 1 class. The motion passed.
NCLB Data Review
- Mr. McKenzie reviewed the No Child Left Behind data
with the Council.
Visiting Artist Program
- The social studies department has submitted a grant
application for $900.00 from the Visiting Artist Program. The grant will be
used to fund Kentucky Humanities Council Chautauqua Speakers.
- Bill Bradford made a motion and Jeannie Graham
seconded that: We approve the Social Studies Department request to submit
a grant application for the Visiting Artist Program. The motion passed.
ESS Proposal & Budget
- The programs include PLATO credit recovery, tutoring
in core subjects, practical living, arts and humanities, international study
club, study/homework club, freshman orientation workshop, portfolio
assistance for seniors with D or F in English after winter break, writing
instruction for seniors who scored apprentice on portfolios, assistance for
students who scored novice or apprentice on previous year’s reading tests,
six weeks of summer PLATO, credit recovery math camp for five days in the
summer, and credit recovery for students who failed second semester of
Spanish 1 or Spanish 2.

seconded that: We approve the ESS proposal as presented. The motion
passed.
Consultation
- Pursuant to KRS.61810.1F Sally Adams made a motion and
Ann Cowan seconded that: We move into executive session to consult on a
custodial position. The motion passed.
