SPECIAL MEETING

The next SBDM Council meeting is set for March 8, 2007

Present:  Mike McKenzie, Janet Lee, Sherri McPherson, Jeannie Graham, Verna Clemons, Sally Adams, Bill Bradford, Debbie Huffman, Bobbie Simpson, Larry Sykes

Absent:  Van Kirk, Rob Strobel

Introductions

• Casey Craddock, a student at UK, came to observe the Council meeting.

Agenda

• Sherri McPherson made a motion and Larry Sykes seconded that:  We approve the agenda as written.  The motion passed.

Minutes

• Sally Adams made a motion and Bobbie Simpson seconded that:  We approve the minutes from the February 22, 2007 SBDM Council meeting as written.  The motion passed.

Duel Credit Request

• Matt Cornett presented the Council with information about an opportunity for Lafayette students to take duel credit English courses 101 in the fall and 102 in the spring and receive college credit.  The courses will be taught as part of Lafayette’s curriculum.
• Requirements would be:

1. A minimum of 12 students
2. Approximately $40 per semester for textbooks
3. One of the following would be required

ACT score of 18 or above on the English section

SAT score of 70 or above in English

Compass equivalent (BCTCS)

4. Letter of recommendation (current English teacher or counselor)

• Jeannie Graham made a motion and Verna Clemons seconded that:  We accept the Duel Credit Requested as presented.  The motion passed.

On Demand Results

• Sharon Donahue asked if the Council made a decision to remedy student’s concerns about possible errors in the grading of the On Demand Writing Test.
• The Council agreed to support the students in their appeal process with the State but will not modify or change the policy.

Staffing

• The Council was given staffing material for review.
• Staffing allocation for 2007-2008 is as follows:

1. 87 teaching positions
2. 4.4 SCAPA teaching positions
3. 10 secretary positions
4. 6 counselor positions

• The Council will meet again next Thursday for further discussion on staffing.

2007-2008 Proposed Budget 2^nd Reading

• This item was postponed until next Council Meeting.

Jeannie Graham made a motion and Janet Lee seconded that: the March 1, 2007 SBDM Council meeting adjourn.  Then motion passed.
