Remaining Staffing Budget
- There is $3,600 remaining in the staffing workbook
fund.
- A recommendation for consideration was reviewed to
work with students who received failing grades between 55%-64% in core
content subjects. Teachers would work with students after school to improve
their grades and a stipend would be paid to teachers for their work. Mr.
McKenzie will come back to the next Council meeting with a proposal.
World Languages Proposal
- Bill Bradford presented a proposal from the World
Languages department for a credit recovery program:
- In January, students who have failed first semester
will be offered the opportunity to recover credit for first semester
- On May 1, if the student has a ‘C’ or higher in the
course, they will be eligible to take a credit recovery test. The STAMP
test will be used.
- If the student is able to achieve a score that
demonstrates proficiency which corresponds with a proficiency level
consistent with student who has successfully completed that level of
language instruction, they will recover credit for the first semester.
- The grade awarded for the first semester will be equal
to the grade they achieve on their final grade report for second semester.
- Larry Sykes made a motion and Van Kirk seconded that:
We approve the proposal for credit recovery presented by the World Languages
department. The motion passed.
Satellite Night School Program Proposal
- District ESS has recently included Lafayette on the
district Plato Web account. The new program access is more rigorous and
offers courses not previously available to Lafayette. With this expansion we
have the capabilities of beginning a night program with as many as 30
students.
- Students would attend four nights a week for three
hours, completing the tutorial course on-line, turning in a portfolio
appropriate piece, and taking a written final examination before credit is
distributed.
- A counselor and instructor would be necessary to
operate the program Monday through Thursday from 5:00 until 9:00 pm.
Beginning February 5th there are 15 remaining weeks of
instruction. At the hourly district stipend rate of $37/ hour, the program
would cost $17,760 for the spring semester. This allocation would be paid
with Smaller Learning Communities funds.
- This alternative program would target graduation
support to:
9th graders with two
or fewer credits
12th graders with five
or fewer credits
Core Course repeaters needing an
alternative delivery
- Prior to beginning, parents/guardians must attend an
orientation with the counselor and sign the district contract. With
staffing of a Language Arts person for two nights and a Math/Science person
for two nights, the student will be able to earn PLATO initial credit.
- Bill Bradford made a motion and Larry Sykes seconded
that: We proceed with the Satellite Nigh School proposal as outlined.
The motion passed.
RFP Update
- We should receive results next week from the State.
Susie Jolliffe made a motion and Sherri McPherson
seconded that: We adjourn the January 25, 2007 SBDM Council meeting.
