Council meeting is set for January 10, 2008
Present: Mike McKenzie, Sally Adams, Tim Mitsumori,
Kathy Doyle, Michael Brown, Bill Bradford, Susannah Kilbourne, Jeannie Graham,
Marsha Bordas, Mike Henderson, Ann Cowan, Janet Lee, Randy Gonzalez
Absent: Scott Davis, Larry Sykes
Introductions
- Randy Gonzalez, a new parent member, was introduced.
Agenda
- Jeannie Graham made a motion and Marsha Bordas
seconded that: We approve the agenda as amended. The motion passed.
Minutes
- Jeannie Graham made a motion and Janet Lee seconded
that: We approve the minutes from the November 8, 2007 SBDM Council
meeting as amended. The motion passed.
Community Input
- Bill Bradford expressed his continued frustration with
the copiers. Mr. McKenzie said that the repair man was here a couple days
updating parts on the copiers.
- Jeannie Graham questioned if any additional cameras
were going to be installed. Mr. McKenzie said Lafayette was next in line
for camera update.
- Janet Lee asked about the fundraising policy and
whether two groups could sell the same items for fundraising. Two groups
sold fruit this year. Mr. McKenzie said that this practice is discouraged.
- Janet Lee said she had several parents voice their
frustration with the Infinite Campus program and the inability to check
grades and attendance online. They also were having trouble getting through
to the school to contact teachers. Mr. McKenzie said they hope to have the
program accessible for parent and students to check information after the
first of January.
- Mike Henderson said that last year’s boy’s soccer team
received an academic award for a team GPA of 3.28.
Budget Reports
- November SCIF and Activity Budget reports were
reviewed.
Social Studies Proposal
- The social studies department presented a proposal to
have all social studies classes taught at the advance level or higher.
Teachers will use differentiated instruction and reading strategies in all
classes to help address individual needs.
- Marsha Bordas made a motion and Bill Bradford seconded
that: We approve the social studies proposal as presented. The
motion passed.
New Course Update
- After discussion with the physical education
department, the decision was made to keep health and PE as a 10th
grade course.
- The new name for the Fitness for Life course will be
Lifetime Sports and Recreation. It will be offered to 9th
graders and will focus on sports for a lifetime.
Budget Committee Report
- Second Month Adjustment figures:
$ 6,756 carry forward (includes
$3,404 for refund of automated calling system)

-960 waived fee funds
-231 special trip fee funds
- Marsha Bordas made a motion and Sally Adams seconded
that: We approve the request to use the carry forward and 2nd
month adjustment funds to purchase copier paper. The motion passed.
Budget Transfer
- Marsha Bordas made a motion and Sally Adams seconded
that: We approve the budget transfer of $9,431 from fund account 0840 to
0610 as requested. The motion passed.
Fee Waiver Request
- Kathy Doyle made a motion and Bill Bradford seconded
that: We approve the science request to use $364.25 in waived fee funds
and $348.75 in special trip fee funds for the physic Kings Island trip.
The motion passed.
Consultation
- Pursuant to KRS.61810.1F Mike Henderson made a motion
and Kathy Doyle seconded that: We move into executive session to consult
on a math position.
The motion passed.
