Council meeting is set for September 12, 2007
Present: Mike McKenzie, Sally Adams, Tim Mitsumori,
Janet Lee, Ann Cowan, Kathy Doyle, Bill Bradford, Susannah Kilbourne, Marsha
Bordas, Scott Davis
Absent: Mike Henderson, Jeannie Graham, Larry Sykes
Introductions
- Susannah Kilbourne introduced herself to the Council.
Agenda
- Janet Lee made a motion and Sally Adams seconded
that: We approve the agenda as amended to include the textbook request
and delete consultation. The motion passed.
Minutes
- Kathy Doyle made a motion and Marsha Bordas seconded
that: We approve the minutes from the August 9, 2007 SBDM Council
meeting as amended. The motion passed.
Community Input
- Janet Lee asked if money generated from increase in
school tax will stay in Fayette County. Mr. McKenzie explained that the
five cent increase will be used for capital improvements for Fayette County
Schools.
Senior Exemption Policy
- Mr. McKenzie explained the following senior exemption
proposal:
On Demand Writing Test
0 exemptions for score of novice
1 exemption for score of
apprentice
2 exemptions for score of
proficient
3 exemptions for score of
distinguished
Portfolio Scores
0 exemptions for score of novice
1 exemption for score of
apprentice
2 exemptions for score of
proficient
3 exemptions for score of
distinguished
Students who score
distinguished on both On Demand Writing and Portfolio will receive 8 exemptions.
- Marsha Bordas made a motion and Susannah Kilbourne
seconded that: We approve the Senior Exemption Policy as presented.
The motion passed.
- Janet Lee expressed her concern that KDE did not
inform teachers sufficiently what should be taught to prepare student
adequately for the On Demand Writing test; therefore students were not
properly prepared.
Principal Selection Policy
- Discussion on the principal selection policy was
postponed until the next Council meeting.
Budget Report
- The Council was given July budget information for
review.
By Law Review
- The Council was asked if there were bylaws they wished
to review. None were requested.
Textbook Request
- Bill Bradford made a motion and Tim Mitsumori seconded
that: We approve the textbook request of $2,300 for special education
and $8,460 for social studies. The motion passed.
Adjournment
- Marsha Bordas made a motion and Susannah Kilbourne
seconded that: We adjourn the August 23, 2007 SBDM Council meeting.
The motion passed.
