The next SBDM
Council meeting is set for May 10, 2007
Present: Mike McKenzie, Sherri McPherson, Jeannie
Graham, Sally Adams, Verna Clemons, Janet Lee, Marsha Bordas, Bobbie Simpson,
Larry Sykes
Absent: Rob Strobel, Debbie Huffman, Van Kirk, Bill
Bradford
Introductions
- Connie Coovert, Donna Maddox, Bonnie Stuck, and Sharon
Warren all introduced themselves.
Agenda
- Janet Lee made a motion and Larry Sykes seconded
that: We approve the agenda as amended. The motion passed.
Minutes
- Marsha Bordas made a motion and Verna Clemons seconded
that: We approve the minutes from the April 12, 2007 SBDM Council
meeting as written. The motion passed.
Drama 3 & 4
- Donna Maddox, a parent of a drama student, expressed
concern about the changes made in the drama program for next year. Levels 3
and 4 would not be offered but students would be able to take independent
study classes.
- Bonnie Stuck, student, spoke in favor of keeping the
drama classes.
- Mr. McKenzie will check with the drama instructor to
see if alternative arrangements could be made.
Orchestra Numbers
- Connie Coovert, from the orchestra booster
organization, spoke about her concern over for next years orchestra
classes. Eighty two students have signed up for concert orchestra and forty
for symphony orchestra. Large class size along with the instability due to
frequent changes in instructors, Ms. Coovert wanted the Council to be aware
of the potential problems for the next school year.
- Mr. McKenzie said he is working with IAKSS about
addressing this issue and will be interviewing for a new instructor in the
very near future.
Textbooks
- Marsha Bordas made a motion and Verna Clemons
seconded: We approve the proposed textbook adoption for social studies
and special education using $27,000 remaining in this year’s textbook
budget and the rest from the allocation of 2007-08 textbook funds. The
motion passed.
Fee Waiver
- Verna Clemons made a motion and Larry Sykes seconded:
We approve the fee waiver request as presented with allowances to spend
the remaining $877 in transportation fees if the resources are needed.
The motion passed.
Community Input
- Mr. McKenzie informed the Council about the letter
that went out to parents about a “hit list.” He informed the Council that
this was a hoax and measures have been taken to deal with the students
involved.
Professional Development Budget
- Janet Lee made a motion and Bobbie Simpson seconded:
We approve the professional development budget for 2007-08 as presented.
The motion passed.
Consultation
- Pursuant to KRS.61801.1F the motion was made to move
into executive session to consult on staffing in the English department.
The motion passed
The next SBDM Council meeting is scheduled for May 10,
2007.
