Library Media Center News and Procedures
Library Fundraiser
The library is selling a Cat’s Meow building. It is a desktop model of the front facade of the main Lafayette building. The back of the model has brief historical notes about the building. This is a great gift idea or souvenir for current and former students. The price is $15.00. Contact the library for more information.
Overdue Notices
It is important to remind students of their library obligations. Students lose check-out privileges until books are returned and fines are paid. Overdue fines for books circulating 2 weeks are 5 cents per day.
Library Passes – 30 Minutes Per Block
A PURPLE LIBRARY PASS is required for each individual student, including teacher aides.
Student will present pass at the Circulation Desk upon arrival. Librarian will note arrival time, stamp the pass, note departure time and return the pass to the student (who should return the pass to the teacher if he/she leaves before dismissal bell). Passes for students remaining in the library until the bell are placed in the teachers’ mailboxes.
Computer Access
Computer access is limited when students outnumber available computers. Scheduled research classes have priority over library pass students. It may be necessary to send pass students back to the classroom if computer space is unavailable. It is extremely helpful for teachers to call and check if there is computer space available in the library.
Computer Use
Students must have a signed Acceptable use Agreement on file in order to log on Lafayette’s computers.
Students may not access chat lines, play games or enter inappropriate websites. Students will be taken off the computers for breaking the rules. See AUP.
Free printing, up to 100 pages, is available to students for school-related projects and writing assignments. Students may not print inappropriate items.
Lunch Policy
Students may come to the library without a library pass within the first 5 minutes after lunch begins. Students must have a library pass after the first 5 minutes of each lunch.
Conduct in the Library
The purpose of the library is for research, study, quiet reading and word processing. Students disrupting this atmosphere will be asked to leave the library. FOOD, CANDY, DRINKS, HAT, CELL PHONES, MUSIC DEVICES OR OTHER ELECTRONIC DEVICES ARE NOT PERMITTED IN THE LIBRARY.
Library Copy Machine
The library’s black-and-white copy machine is coin-operated only. The copier is 10 cents per page. Letter-sized and legal-sized lengths of paper are available. It is possible to enlarge and reduce the original copy.
Scheduling Special Meetings in the Library
The library plan book is used to verify scheduled before/after school meetings. The meetings are also noted on the master schedule maintained by Mrs. Morris, the Principal’s Secretary. Please check before assuming space is available.
