Generals Off to Fast Start
By: Tim Lewis

September 20, 2002

The two teams had many similarities that included a 2-0 record, large margin of victories, high-powered offenses, devastating defenses, and that no one gives them any respect.

The first half was pretty even but Lafayette took a 14-0 lead. Both teams played sloppily with several missed tackles and turnovers. A scary moment occurred when senior defensive end John Tudor went down with a neck injury, but sophomore Josh Hamperian stepped up and had a great game with a fumble recovery and several key tackles. When asked about his performance Hamperian said, “I was a little nervous at first but I knew that I had what it took to succeed.”

The second half seemed like an entirely different game. The Generals really stepped up and showed that they have one of the most dominating defenses in the state. The second half started out with the Generals not allowing John Hardin a first down on their opening two drives. The Generals were able to tack on another touchdown and won the game with a 21-0 score.

The Generals are now 3-0 for the second straight year and are playing Mason County at home on September 13. Both teams have a perfect record, but Mason County is rated first in 2A and in the top five teams overall in the state. It is sure to be a great game. Everyone should come out to see it.
