Thursday, March 23, 2016 - "A" Day

BANDS NEEDED: Any bands who would like to sign up for Beta Club’s Battle of the Bands on April 14th need to see Mr. Emmons in Room 105 for more information BEFORE Spring Break!

CLASS RING MONEY DUE: Sophomores: don't forget to turn in your class ring money to Josten’s today or tomorrow during lunch at the gym concession stand.

SENIOR TRANSITION SHEETS DUE: Seniors: Don’t forget to turn in your Senior Transition and Tracking Sheets to the counseling office.

GSA: GSA will meet today from 3:30-4:30 in Room 254. All are welcome to attend!

BOOK & FILM CLUB: Lafayette Book & Film Club is reading The Perks of Being a Wallflower. We will meet to discuss the book and watch the film on April 12th beginning at 3:30 in the library. Any questions see Mrs. Guth or Mrs. Jolliffe in the library or Mrs. Franklin in room 201.

SENIORS: Seniors that have already paid for their caps and gowns and did not pick them up yet can pick them up from Ms. Chastain in the YSC – Room 116.

COLLEGE VISITS: Juniors and Seniors can sign up in the counseling office to meet with a representative from these schools and learn more about what they offer and the application process:

CTE College of Cosmetology (Winchester) – Friday, March 24th at 9 AM

Simmons College of KY – Monday, March 27th at 9 AM

API (Study Abroad) – Wednesday, March 29th at 9 AM

Distinguished Young Women – Monday, April 17th at 9 AM

MedQuest College (for Allied Healthcare) – Wednesday, April 12th at 9 AM

DISTINGUISHED YOUNG WOMEN SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM: Distinguished Young Women (formerly Junior Miss) is the oldest and largest scholarship program in the U.S. The Fayette County Distinguished Young Women program sign up deadline is May 15, 2017. Come to the counseling office or visit for more information.

UK HEALTHCARE VOLUNTEER SERVICES: UK HealthCare Volunteer Services Department 2017 Summer Teen Volunteer applications are open. This program allows high School students an opportunity to explore the nature of a large healthcare facility, as well as provide volunteer service to the community. Please come to the counseling office for more information and website to apply.

IFAL CONFERENCE 2017: The Institute for Future Agricultural Leaders application for their Summer 2017 conference is now open. This is a 5 day summer leadership conference that exposes students to college life and explores different fields of study for careers in agriculture. There is a choice of conferences at Murray State University and the University of Kentucky. Please come to the counseling office for more information.

DONATE PLASTIC BOTTLE CAPS: Help us recycle bottle caps and turn them into cool furniture for our school. This works for the bottle caps only, not the bottles. Look for collection bins in the Library and cafeteria to drop off your bottle caps for recycling!

AOK PROM DRESS DRIVE: The Acts of Kindness Club’s prom dress drive deadline has been extended to March 24th! All dresses donated or loaned can be brought to Ms. Freeman in room 265 and will be given to other girls to wear or borrow for their prom. If a dress is loaned it will be returned after prom!

ALIVE AT 25: Alive at 25 will have another class on Monday, March 27th from 4-8 PM in Room 140. This is the 4 hour required course for your graduated license. Forms to register for the class are available from Ms. Brown in the front office.

API STUDY ABROAD OPPORTUNITIES: An API Study Abroad representative will be at Lafayette on Wednesday, March 29th at 9:00 AM to speak with interested students about opportunities their company provides. This is for students who wish to study, do community service, work in internships or even have a Gap year abroad. Please sign up in the counseling office for this information session.

YEARBOOKS ON SALE NOW: 2016-2017 yearbooks are on sale now. You can pick up an order form from Mrs. Calk in Room 219 or you can order online at

ROTARY CLUB SCHOLARSHIP: The Rotary Club Scholarship Application is now available! Applications are open to all students who exhibit academic success and have a non-weighted minimum GPA of 3.5 or higher. The Rotary Scholar will receive a $6,000 scholarship, payable in the amount of $1,500 per year.  All Fayette County Scholastic Team members will earn a scholarship of $1,000 per honoree. Students may apply for a scholarship by going to the Lexington Rotary Club website at Deadline to apply is April 10, 2017.

COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD FOR SENIORS: Seniors: the Community Action Council is accepting applications for the Outstanding Community Service Award. This is for seniors making a difference in our community. Multiple students can be selected for the award based on the selection panel’s assessment of the nominations. Up to $1,000 in awards will be distributed. Applications are in the counseling office. Deadline is March 31, 2107.
