Friday, September 22, 2017 - "A" Day

FASHION CLUB: Fashion Club will be meeting next Monday, September 25th from 3:30 – 4:30 in Room 130.

WRESTLING OPEN MAT: Anyone interested in wrestling this year, Open Mat resumes next Tuesday, September 26th in the Green Building from 5:30-7 PM, and will be going on Tuesdays and Thursdays, until October 15. This will give you a chance to learn or improve wrestling skills!

SOCIAL STUDIES ESS: There will be a Social Studies ESS after school next Thursday, September 28th from 3:30 – 4:30 pm in Room 230 with Mr. Stancil.

SENIOR PARKING PASS LOTTERY: Winners of the Senior Parking Pass Lottery and instructions on payment and paperwork required are listed outside of Room 20. Payment and paperwork is due to Ms. Duffy by Friday, September 29th and can be turned in to her before or after school.

GOVERNOR’S SCHOLARS PROGRAM INFO MEETING: Any Junior interested in applying to the Governor’s Scholars Program this year should plan to attend the Information Session on Tuesday, September 26th at 2:30 pm in the Library. To sign up, email your name to Mr. Cook or sign up in the Counseling Office.

SENIOR PICTURES/RETAKES: Any student that missed having their picture taken for the yearbook must make an appointment directly with Holifield at their studio by September 22nd to be included in the yearbook. Call 276-2040 to setup your free appointment with Holifield.

ACADEMIC TEAM: Academic Team will have their first meeting on Monday, September 25th in room 212 at 3:25 PM. If you are interested in joining and cannot make this meeting, see Mrs. Holland in Room 212.

EKU COLLEGE OF EDUCATION: EKU College of Education will be here on Thursday, September 28th at 9:00 AM to talk to any African-American student who has interest in becoming a teacher. Please sign-up in the Counseling office in the College Visits notebook.

COMMISSIONER'S STUDENT COUNCIL: Students in grades 10-12 are invited to apply for membership on the Commissioner's Student Council, an advisory group that provides input and feedback to Kentucky Commissioner of Education Stephen Pruitt. The council also is designed to engage student leaders in learning by doing. Deadline is Friday, September 29th, information in the counseling office.

SISTER CITIES EXCHANGE: If you are interested in participating in a Lexington Sister Cities Exchange Program in Deauville, France; County Kildare, Ireland; or Shinhidaka, Japan come to the counseling office for more information and applications.

2016-2017 YEARBOOKS AVAILABLE FOR PICK-UP: If you haven't picked up your yearbook, stop by Room 219 before or after school this week!

BOYS’ SOCCER PASSES: There are passes offering free admission to students to all home boys’ soccer games in the front office. Stop by and pick one up!

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL WORKOUTS/TRYOUTS: Girls’ basketball pre-season workouts are every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 3:30-5:15.  For more information please see Coach Denton in room 144 on B days and the gym on A days. Try-outs for the girls’ basketball team will be Tuesday, October 17th.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL WORKOUTS/TRYOUTS: Preseason conditioning for the Boys’ Basketball Team are every Monday through Thursday from 3:45 – 5 pm.  Anyone interested in participating must have an up-to-date physical.  Questions? See Coach Mendenhall in room 240 or Coach Wilkinson in room 106.

U.S. SERVICE ACADEMY FAIR: The 2017 U.S. Service Academy Info Fair will be on September 23rd from 10-11 AM at the Aviation Museum in Lexington. Reps will be at the Fair from the Air Force, Merchant Marine, Military, Naval, and Coast Guard Academies. For more information, see the Counseling Office.

PSAT: The PSAT will be given to all 9th and 10th graders this year on Wednesday, October 11th. Juniors interested in taking the exam will register online August 28th-September 15th at

EXPLORING COLLEGE OPTIONS: There will be a Student/Parent Information Session with representatives from Duke, Georgetown, Harvard, Penn, and Stanford at the Seelbach Hilton in Louisville on Thursday, October 5th at 7:00 PM. Information for RSVP is available in the Counseling office.

GSE: Governor’s School for Entrepreneurs (GSE) is open for any 9th – 11th grade student interested in a realistic and authentic entrepreneurial experience. Applications will be open from November 1st to December 20th. Check in the Counseling Office for more details.

COLLEGE VISITS: All Juniors and Seniors can sign up with Ms. Baker in the Counseling Office to visit with college representatives. College visits will be held in the Library unless otherwise specified.
